Folk Database

Teesdale Folk Database

This page provides a series of signposts guiding you to collections that feature Teesdale songs, tunes, dances and other folk-related items. As with much folk culture, most of these items are not unique to the area, but all were collected in the area or have a strong connection with it.

Fortunately, much of the material is accessible online, and it is likely that this will increase over the years.

How to Browse the Database

The database is laid out as a table, like a spreadsheet. Here are the main moves you can use for browsing it:

  • Search the database. Click the Search box on the right side and type the term for which you want to search.
  • Change the number of entries the page shows. You can control the number of entries on the page by clicking the Show N Entries pop-up menu and then clicking the number you want: 10, 25, 50, or 100.
  • Sort the database by a column heading. Click a column heading to sort the database by that heading. For example, click the Title heading to sort the items by title. You can click the same heading again to reverse the sort order, which is often useful for finding the items you’re seeking.

The Direct Link column shows any available link to the specific item on the website that hosts it. Try clicking this link to view the item. If the link doesn’t work, the site may have moved the item to a different page. In this case, click the link in the Permalink to Site column, and then use the site’s search tools to search for the item.
